Semi-trailers for the collection and transport of glass for recovery and recycling

Glass is one of the most difficult materials to transport: heavy, abrasive, sharp and fragile all at once. Flat glass in particular reaches maximum weight with very little volume, making it even more critical than ferrous scrap. Every fragment that escapes is a risk to operators and a regulatory problem.

Gervasi Ecologica designs semi-trailers for glass transport built for exactly this: tare weight reduced to a minimum to carry more glass on every weigh-in, abrasion-resistant internal walls, secure containment of fragments throughout transport.

What makes this work challenging

The operational challenges facing those who collect, transport and deliver glass destined for recovery and recycling.

Critical tare weight for flat glass

Flat glass weighs 2.5 tonnes per cubic metre: maximum weight is reached with very little volume. Every kg of tare matters.

Abrasive, sharp fragments

Broken glass wears down internal walls just like metal scrap, and poses a direct risk to those handling it.

Containing the fragments

If glass breaks during transport, the fragments must stay inside the body. Safety and compliance depend on it.
